What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves staying a hyperbaric chamber where the pressure is maintained at 1.3 to 2.4 absolute atmospheres. This allows the patient to breathe oxygen at levels eight to fifteen times that of normal atmosphere. The pure oxygen inhaled dissolves in the plasma, increasing the oxygen level in tissues, improving tissue hypoxia, promoting tissue proliferation and wound healing, enhancing the bactericidal capacity of white blood cells, and facilitating the elimination of harmful gases to achieve therapeutic goals.

The Relationship Between Oxygen and human body

The human body is composed of billions of cells, each requiring an adequate supply of oxygen to generate energy, promote growth, repair, and improve cellular function, thereby maintaining bodily functions.

The body transports oxygen through the blood to all parts of the body, helping to fight bacteria and stimulating the release of growth factors and stem cells for repair. When there is a sufficient supply of oxygen, damaged tissues can regenerate, the immune system is strengthened, and the healing process accelerates.

When in a normal atmospheric environment, the pressure is 1 standard atmosphere (ATA), and the air inhaled contains approximately 21% oxygen. During metabolism, the body consumes oxygen, and when oxygen levels are insufficient, cells may experience hypoxia, leading to the production of free radicals and gradual aging of the body. As we age, cellular tissues begin to deteriorate, requiring oxygen to initiate repair and healing processes.

During hyperbaric oxygen treatment, the pressure in the chamber is increased to 1.3 to 2.4 ATA. In this high-pressure environment, breathing pure oxygen elevates the oxygen content in the plasma, improving tissue hypoxia, promoting tissue proliferation and wound healing, enhancing the bactericidal capacity of white blood cells, and facilitating the elimination of harmful gases to achieve therapeutic effects.

Accelerating Treatment Effects

Hong Kong Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center (HKHBOT) offers hyperbaric chamber services that can be used as either a primary treatment or an adjunct therapy. Specific treatment plans are arranged based on the patient’s condition and therapeutic needs. Patients breathe 100% pure oxygen in the chamber, with pressures reaching up to 2.4 ATA at a medical grade level.
